St. Joseph Parish is committed to living out its L.I.F.E. mission: Liturgy, Instruction, Fellowship, and Evangelization. We strive to be a welcoming community of faith rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, serving the Maysville neighborhood and the greater Mobile, Alabama area.

Our History
St. Joseph Parish in Maysville, Mobile, Alabama has been a cornerstone of the African-American Catholic community since its founding in 1930. Established to serve the Maysville neighborhood, the parish has grown into a vibrant faith community with deep roots in the history of the Catholic Church in the South.
For nearly a century, St. Joseph has been staffed by the Josephite Priests and Brothers — a religious congregation dedicated to ministry among African Americans in the United States. Their presence has shaped the parish's identity and its commitment to justice, education, and community service.
Over the decades, parishioners have contributed generously to the growth and beautification of the church, funding the Carrollonic Bells, the lighted fans, and the central air conditioning and heating system — all testaments to the community's love for their parish home.
The Josephites
St. Joseph Maysville is proudly staffed by The Josephite Priests and Brothers and dedicated lay people. The Josephites are a Catholic religious congregation founded in 1893 with a special mission to serve the African-American community in the United States. Their ministry of evangelization, education, and social justice has been central to the life of St. Joseph Parish for generations.
